Shaun Scott, a 2026 four-star OLB at Santa Ana (Calif.), told me this evening he is visiting UCLA on April 6.

This is what Adam Gorney wrote about him after watching him this past weekend at the Rivals Camp:

“Shaun Scott is one of the top-ranked linebackers in the 2026 class but he might not be a linebacker for long because the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei standout keeps growing. Now up to 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Scott worked with the defensive ends on Sunday and definitely looked the part even if he’s still learning the position. As a sophomore playing at arguably the nation’s top program, Scott was awesome playing at linebacker and roaming all over. We might see more of him with his hand in the dirt.”

Better to focus on the future, but let's understand the challenges CDF faces.
Super Lazy Chip made essentially close to zero efforts in:
1) Fan engagement (that is, no spring games, closed practices, no Bruin Walk, lowest attendance ever)
2) Abandonment of the 'Kicker U' recruiting pipeline which thrived for decades
3) No major donor engagement and no 'press the flesh' presence - this was near-terminal in the NIL era.
4) Very limited recruiting except for the portal.
What Chip did do was to fake it and 'look busy' by focusing endlessly on relatively inconsequential things
where he did not ever have to 'leave the building' - such as nutrition, memes, slogans, press conferences with just him
and no assistants ever speaking.

F- hardly describes how bad an impact Chip Kelly had on the UCLA program. God Bless you DeShaun Foster.

Rivals Camp: Los Angeles stop - with video interviews

Just a heads up for this weekend: I’ll be at East LA College on Sunday for the workouts of the Rivals Camp series.

A strong number of 2025, 2026 and 2027 recruits will be in attendance, including quite a few with UCLA offers and others visiting Westwood this week. So there should be plenty to come from that the day of and the days after, including video interviews and stories.

Strange juxtaposition with football

I apologize in advance if this topic rankles people. I trust most of you know me well enough to realize I err on the side of athletes.

This staff is overwhelmingly African American. I 100% support that for many reasons, mostly because more coaches are not but most players are.

The UCLA student body is at a 50 year low of AA students thanks to the courts.

So we should be an attractive option for athletes who want to relate to the coaches, but the student body is not reflective of the coaching staff.

I hope that non AA players value the coaching staff as well as AA players. I am not suggesting the staff is an issue at all.

The question I have is what the experience will be for AA students who have an attraction to the coaching staff in part because of their playing experience and diversity but have a mostly non-engaged student body who isn’t a reflection of the diversity of the team. I think in many situations the glow of the enthusiasm for football helps bond players and students. But without enthusiasm you have not only an isolated experience for athletes but also because of the lack of AA students to relate to.

I’ve been told by the Penn State site publisher that 2027 cornerback Larry Moon already has eight visits lined up this spring and one will be March 4 as he visits USC in the morning and UCLA in the afternoon.

DeShaun Foster is targeting kids nationally very early in their recruitment.
