Cronin vs Chip

Why is that the public generally blames the players when the basketball team fails but blame Chip when the football team fails? Just like Chip takes the heat for our defense sucking and recruiting not being up to speed, shouldn’t Cronin take heat for his last three 5 star players being abysmal on offense? Or the fact that our defense can guard any top flight opponents?

Football practice 11/21

Just a heads up, gonna write tomorrow’s story remotely as I do some of my own load management.

Didn’t want to miss a Chip day so that’s why I was there tonight. With it just players tomorrow (likely DTR and one other player), felt like a good time to get this usual rest in before getting Chip again Tuesday.

I’ll share the UCLA videos after Monday’s practice and go from there.

Lost weekend

Seems like every November we have at least one lost weekend where the football and basketball teams lose games they shouldn’t…. Usually big games. This weekend was painful…. Even my daughter’s volleyball team had some bad losses (they’re all beginners and this was their first tournament so they’ll be fine). Anyways, the b-ball team kicked it off by losing a 15 point 2nd half lead, then the football team lost a 14 point lead while throwing the ball away, and b-ball finished it off with an inconsistent effort against Baylor while Tyger did his best DTR impression by throwing the ball away with under a minute and a chance to take the lead…. The sad part is, I saw all of it coming… Mick talked about it a lot… we just don’t have the mental toughness at this point. Such a let down cuz both sports had this weekend circled on the calendar at the start of the season and we came up with goose eggs. Now we’re gonna watch UofA be ranked above us for the next few months because they’ll play their usual pansy-@$$ schedule and we let our chance to make a mark slip by. Oh well…

Football practice 11/20

Chip said the losses and defense against the high-powered offenses have presented different takeaways as opposed to one theme, in his mind. He was again complimentary of USC and Caleb Williams, noting some of the throws he made that not every QB can make. Effort was not an issue for him.

He also did not second-guess the decision to play out the first half as opposed to kneeling out the clock. He called the INTs at the end of the half uncharacteristic of DTR.

DTR’s Rose Bowl story comes to a close with the UCLA QB battling to the end

DTR had his share of the blame, which he accepted, but it was a battle to the bitter end for UCLA’s banged up QB.

A moment I captured at the end of the game, with him reflecting on the Rose Bowl field one final time, was the fitting end to a season that made many say what-if.

What happened last night?

Were we unprepared?
Were we overconfident?
Was our defensive game plan flawed?
Did Fisch outsmart Chip?
Why did our offense sputter?
Is our Oline not able to protect DTR?
Is Charbonnet a stud?
Did we miss Kaz?
Hard to shake off a loss at home to a team that gives up 40 plus points per game and we put up just 28.
Can things be fixed this week?
