Not a whole lot of inside scoop this week as UCLA gets set to open camp Monday, but a couple notes for you nonetheless:
Corner help on the way?
It's no secret cornerback recruiting is looking gloom for 2016 - at least on the high school front - but help appears to be on the way in the form of a junior college three-star.
Multiple sources have told us Devron Davis, who was offered by Demetrice Martin on Friday evening, will go public with a UCLA pledge likely on Monday.
Davis is a 6-foot, 210-pound corner who plays JUCO ball at Merced C.C. He's slated to graduate in December and would have three years to play two at UCLA. He has a massive offer sheet, which includes schools like Ohio State, Oregon, Arizona State, Nebraska and more.
Brad Hoiseth, who covers junior college recruiting for us at Rivals.com, had this to say of Davis: "He should be ranked in the top 10 JUCO guys. I will try to work the guys for a fourth star. The kid can play."
Davis played high school ball at Franklin up in Sacramento. While the tie is loose, that's where Lamar Jackson plays, which may help that recruitment somewhat. EDIT: There are actually two Franklins up there in the Sacramento area, and Jackson and Davis played at different ones. Davis said he knows Jackson, though. So there's that.
Some people that I've spoken to believe Davis is actually a silent commitment already, and the public announcement is all that's left here.
Short Shots
-Five-star forward T.J. Leaf decommitted from Arizona a few days ago. Several close to the recruitment expect him to land at UCLA now. That would give the Bruins four Compton Magic pledges (Leaf, Ike Anigbogu, Jalen Hill, Kobe Paras) with one more possibly on the way as well (Jaylen Hands).
-UCLA's 2015 hoops recruiting class came in at No. 24 overall in this weekend's Rivals.com class rankings.
-Four-star RB / slot Melquise Stovall decommitted from USC on Saturday. He hinted in an interview Sunday he's not currently talking to UCLA: "I'm talking to Utah, Washington State, Oregon State and some other schools."
