Yesterday Steve Alford and his assistant David Grace had an in-home visit with five star 6'10" PF Jordan Brown. Brown starred for Woodcreek HS in Roseville, Ca., but transferred to Prolific Prep in Napa for his senior year.

A couple items should be clarified here. Prolific Prep does not have a reputation as a prep school diploma mill, and there's no indication Brown is a problematical student. In fact academically challenging schools like UCLA, Cal, and Virginia have been on him from the beginning.

From all accounts the move to Prolific Prep was simply for the better competition. Both in practice, and per their schedule. That's a good thing because when Brown went up against big time summer competition, he didn't always play with confidence.

Brown's recruitment has been interesting, and there's been little in the way of a clear picture. Some people think he was very interested in UCLA, but reluctant to go there with Marvin Bagley. To show Brown he wasn't a back up plan, it was rumored Steve Alford made a first to announce offer.

In the meantime there's another school of thought that thinks Brown is intrigued by new Cal Coach Wyking Jones, and seriously considering thinking about the Bears.

Last month Brown listed a final seven of UCLA, Cal, Oregon, Gonzaga, St. Jones, Nevada, and Louisiana Lafayette (where his father played). The betting line is that Lafayette was a courtesy, and there has been almost no buzz about St. Johns or Nevada.

Meaning this should come down to a Pac 12 plus Gonzaga fight.
