Bryan Penn-Johnson may be one of the least known West Coast recruits in some time. This because he's been a late developer, and now plays for Wasach Academy in a small Utah town.
He's a true 7 Footer, and based on his yet slim frame may not be done growing. However don't be fooled into thinking his lack of weight means he's frail. On the contrary (unlike Thomas Welch at the same age) he can be physical.
Bryan's low profile hasn't kept him from being a legit 4 star based on summer play. Watching him play is interesting as you don't expect him to have such a soft touch (he's a lefty). Penn-Johnson has a good upside, and could end up being someone people watch for the first time and are very surprised they've never heard of him.
Coach Alford & Coach Grace had an in-home visit with Bryan about a week ago, and he has a UCLA offer. I really like his game, as unlike many big men he knows he's a center. No drifting outside for long 3's (a la Bol Bol), and he wants to protect the middle by contesting everything (a la Jelani).
Watch some video on him and see what you think:
