We recently had a thread talking about how Red Sanders, and his desire to separate UCLA from it's big, and very successful in football, Cal. The first thing he did was to stop copying Cal's shade of blue in the uniforms, and switch to what he dubbed Powderkeg Blue.

We had another thread when the new uniforms came about, where many fans expressed their pleasure in UA bringing back the full shoulder stripe. So it's time Bruin fans knew who also started that tradition.

UCLA got credit for inventing the shoulder stripe because Red Sanders – who coached the football team from 1949 to 1957 – had it put on the jersey. Some even refer to it as the “UCLA stripe.”
