I think people forget what a steaming pile this site was before you got here, and how much better you have made it.
BRO has been allowed to throw exponentially more money and resources at reporting including poaching a number of your former colleagues. You still remain competitive with them particularly as you did not grow up a fan or attend the school giving more objectivity. I'd hope people would understand that you also want to eat, drink and maybe pay rent. It's unfortunate that rivals is such a cheap-ass company (try canceling with them or complaining about an outage if you want to know how cheap).
Personally, I would love more opinion pieces, since so much the day to day stuff shows up on other sites twitter etc. I believe your realistic and even-handed portrayal of the program remains your greatest and most unique asset and one I can say I certainly appreciate it.
I look forward to you remaining with this site in whatever capacity you can afford to. I sincerely doubt there's another reporter who would be willing or able to put in the time/effort with the afforded resources and and do a better or even comparable job.
And don't worry, since I cancelled our B--ball tickets and football tickets I can afford to remain here until the sun burns out
