Before the USC game, I imagine we'd have 1 or 2 more years with Alford (again, would be hard to fire a guy after another Sweet 16 by Guerrero's standards). However, after last night's showing, I'm getting a sense that there's going to be a move made by Guerrero. The noise is just getting way too loud from fans/alumni/donors/media. Think he has to take a hard look and weigh his options. Hoping he swallows his pride, admits he made the wrong hire, and takes a leap of faith. There's going to be some interesting coaching options out there. And despite the rough past few years and growing negative reputation here in Westwood, there is some considerable talent next year for a new hire to do some damage with. I'd also add that Guerrero by now has to have heard all of the transfer/departure rumors. He has to know that the only way to keep our core together is by having a new face at the helm. Think of it this way - we'd be trading Steve and Bryce for let's say Gregg Marshall and Holiday. Lastly, and I know this sounds crazy, but I think this is beneficial for Steve Alford as well. Staying one more year, receiving his best class yet, only to have it all blow up in his face again would reveal he's just a mediocre coach. He should leave for a midmajor now and just chalk up his UCLA tenure as a bad fit. He can leave "mutually", get a settled buyout amount, and go coach let's say Mizzou (Kim Anderson over there is a dismal 19-44 through his first two seasons). Anyways, this is mostly wishful thinking, but I have hope after last night's debacle. I think Westwood now sees what I've been seeing for a long time. Time to move on.
