...in several of the sports programs.
1.) Men and Women's Track and Field both need a complete overhaul. The men just placed 18th at the NC's, scoring just 12 points, which tied them with Middle Tenn. State. The women scored 0, yes, 0 points. Both performances were a complete disgrace, particularly in light of the storied history of UCLA track teams and athletes of the past.
I don't want coaches to lose their jobs, especially those making relatively low salaries. I do want coaches with proven records of success in recruiting and training athletes to be brought in, such as Bob and Jackie
Joyner Kersee. Pay them, give them free rein, and watch them transform the track and field program.
UCLA track and field is an empty disgraceful shell of what it used to be, and this should not be tolerated.
2.) Men's and women's cross country needs to be relegated to intramural or club status. They exist because they are cheap to produce. This is not acceptable at a university of the stature and wealth of UCLA.
3.) The money is there to bring back men's gymnastics and swimming and diving. Imagine that there is no men's swimming and diving team in a world-class university based in sunny southern California?! The athletic administration took away three olympic sports in men's gymnastics, swimming and diving, and wrestling for budgetary reasons. Well, that has changed. There are now more private donations and corporate monies. It's time to bring back men's gymnastics and swimming and diving, and not in 5-10 years, but now.
