Via our friends over at our TAMU Rivals site:
On Erik McCoy: He's a freshman? Could you have waited until Sunday to tell me that? I have no apprehension about him being ready to play. I'm excited to see him play on Saturday.
On the center's role: Everyone in the box is his responsibility...he probably has to make more pre-snap decisions, while the quarterback makes more post-snap decisions.
On UCLA's run defense: We had lost three of our top players off our defense, so we had to play a lot of young players. Eddie Vanderdoes is the guy we need to watch out for. That's a good challenge for us. It's going to be a real physical game. Jim wanted to be physical and there's no doubt that's been accomplished there.
Difference between the SEC and the PAC: The PAC is known a little more for the spread offenses, but there are some great coaches in the PAC-12 as in the SEC. Everyone has solid schemes, everyone is prepared. I would say the big difference is the week-in, week-out size of the offensive and defensive lines. But you look at Oregon and Stanford, they've got some big cats too.
On the UCLA guys he knows: I want to kick the dog out of them, but I also want them to have successful careers.
The coach paranoia sets in, because they'll know every word and know every play, so we have to change all that... but do I change a lot? No. Schemes are schemes and players play...and I've gone against their defense for four years.
On Knight: I'm kind of excited for Trevor. He's been everything we could have asked him to be since he's stepped on campus and if he goes out and just takes a couple of deep breaths and is just Trevor, we'll be fine.
Biggest difference between A&M and UCLA: It's a little bit longer to the beach. The humidity's a little different. I felt good chemistry with this staff immediately with these coaches -- how can expect the players to be on the same page if the coaches aren't? It's been kind of fun, it's been a challenge.
On being at A&M: This place is unbelievable, but I have yet to experience Kyle Field on gameday yet. It's SEC-caliber there, and you're in the hotbed of high school football. You're playing top competition every week. It's just behind the AFC West.
