Over the years UCLA basketball has featured many very tall players (Lew Alcindor 7'2", Ralph Drollinger 7'1", Mark Eaton 7'4", Stuart Grey 7'0", etc.). There have also been squads with a 7 footer, and another significantly tall player (Lew and Swen Nater, Drollinger and Brett Vromen, Grey and Eaton).
However this year's team may be the tallest overall squad UCLA has ever put on the floor. Welch is a legitimate 7 footer, and Goloman a solid 6''11". So we have another Bruin team with a 7 footer and another significantly tall player ... but it doesn't nearly stop there.
Alex Olosinski might contribute this year and he's 6'10. If Jalen Hill is a smidge under 6'10", he's still growing and soon will be that or more. Chris Smith is also still growing and is already 6'9", plus he plays outside and isn't even a big man.
That doesn't even count Cody Riley who's 6'7", but I think will be a real big contributor on the inside. We've heard reports Alford wasn't to expand the rotation to 10 or 11, and it's easy to see how with so much height and multi faceted talent.
We expected last season to be very exciting and it was, but without a lot of mystery as to how and why. This season should also be an exciting one, but we've got so many question marks to be filled in. How many in the rotation? Does Alford use a two big / three wing lineup?
What do you think about double PG's (Holiday / Hands, with 2 wings and a center? I think Alford plays all of the above and maybe even a 1 big, 3 wing, PG lineup. In other words we could be seeing an interchangeable series of pieces rotating in to match the opponents look.
