Rivals.com had its first-ever Rivals QB Challenge today. The set up was basically just throwing at stationary targets, so it was a little different than your standard Elite 11 type competition, but it was cool nonetheless.

Anyway, here were my notes:

-It's very, very clear the 2016 class out West isn't going to offer much. We had just about all the known names out there today, outside of Matt Fink and Ian Book, and other than Devon Modster, there wasn't a single guy I would have offered if I were UCLA.

-I thought Modster was easily the best 2016 QB there. He hit the target just about every time and I think he should be a no-brainer for UCLA, especially considering what's left out there behind him in the region for '16 QBs.

-The other 2016 QB we were watching was Kevin Davidson, who didn't have a great day. He missed a lot of throws. Yet he has some traits that could make him a UCLA offeree. He's big and he has a powerful arm. Plus, like I keep saying, I'm not sure there's much better out there for UCLA regardless.

-In 2017, Tate Martell wasn't too special, but his magic comes on the real field and not in these events. Nonetheless, I don't expect him to be a UCLA target. I think they feel he's too small.

-A 2017 prospect who emerged as a high major player today was Connor Neville. The Oregon QB was very accurate and had great footwork. I could see UCLA getting involved with him.

-UCLA offeree Khalil Tate was there, and I think he's very clearly a wideout.

-Three-star Max Gilliam had a solid day. He has no elite traits, and is likely a Jerry Neuheisel kind of college player. But again, with the level of talent in the '16 class out here, that might be what UCLA ends up with.

-A few other names popped, like 2016 Oregon QB Sam Noyer and 2019 JT Daniels. But really, if you're looking for some elite West Coast quarterbacks in the next two classes, it might be hard to find.
