Spoke with Kyle Philips this evening. Story on his official visit is up on the front page.
He didn't offer much when asked about how the other targets (Elijah Wade, Tyler Manoa and Tyreke Johnson) he was with on the trip were leaning, saying they all enjoyed it, but he appeared to strike up a good bond with Manoa, who seems pretty smitten with UCLA at the moment.
Anyway, I was also curious to see how official visits worked at UCLA this season since it's been a while since I asked a visitor about them. Here was Philips' breakdown of his days:
Saturday (when he arrived)
-Went to team hotel
-Got to the Rose Bowl early, watched Bruin Walk, spent time with family on field before game, watched game in stands
-Ate dinner with the entire coaching staff, sitting and talking with them
-After dinner, he spent time with his host in Westwood
Sunday
-Breakfast with staff
-Tour of facilities
-Met with most of UCLA's staff – strength coaches, etc.
-Dinner with coaches
-Hung out with hosts after dinner again
Monday
-Ate breakfast, attended team meeting and then went home
So most of the standard stuff as in recent years. Except the "try on our jersey" thing has moved from the Rose Bowl to the Wasserman Center and breakfast Sunday morning is no longer at Mora's place. Philips said most of the dinners were spent at "really nice steak restaurants."
Interesting stuff.
