There were a couple of things from that press conference the felt uncomfortable to me.
The first were the prepared statements.
I hate it when apologies are prepared statements because every word has been crafted and one doesn't ever know for sure if the person reading it is sincere.
The second was that no questions were allowed to be asked.
The three UCLA players appeared to be choked up at times so I believe them when they said they were sorry, but I just wish they would have been allowed to express their feelings from their hearts.
We only heard about sunglasses being shoplifted. Was it more then one pair? What were the other three stores and what was taken? Was anything found?
Because there were no questions allowed, it left a lot of things unanswered like why they did it, why did they think they could get away with it, whose idea was it.
To me, those prepared statements, while sounding very sincere, still made me feel like they were reading something they were forced to read and not necessarily something they wrote.
I am still extremely happy they are home, happy for their families and all of their friends.
They should consider themselves very fortunate.
I would have been okay with any punishment from a expulsion to a slap on the wrist because only UCLA officials and the players truly know the extent of what happened.
An indefinite suspension is measured. I trust our system, not so much the Chinese system but I am glad both sides agreed to whatever it was they agreed to in order for them to come home.
