To respond to those who call others "haters" because they either don't care or would actively like to UCLA lose I believe you have to understand the reasoning which it appears you don't.
I think most fans (you see how empty Pauley was all year) believe this is a bad team with a bad coach. I would compare him to Dorell (though actually that is a bit unfair to Alford as he actually has been far more competent than KD ever was or will be). But I believe the comparison is fair in that the expectations are far higher far basketball than football.
I was happy to see KD lose to USC his last year because it guaranteed they would get rid of him. Otherwise it meant more of what was the worst UCLA football I have ever seen. He was literally burning the program to the ground with his inability to coach, evaluate talent, and recruit. Now, was his replacement a great hire? No, but he was better than KD, and he actually left the cupboard far more full than KD did so someone could succeed after him.
This team that plays a poor brand of basketball (no defense and playground -- jack it up offense). One (pretty lucky) win against a team having a terrible shooting day doesn't change that. They may well beat UAB as well, it still won't make this a good team.
The odds are this team will be worse next year losing their best player in Powell and most talented athlete in Looney.
In my opinion Alford won't succeed because I don't think he's a good enough coach to (it's not like he's been insanely successful elsewhere). He's always going to lose to well disciplined teams and to those that have even close to the same talent (see their record of 1-7 against top 25 competition).
So, yes like some others I would prefer to see the pain minimized by having his tenure be as short as possible and hopefully not as damaging as KDs was. If you have gangrene you're going to lose the leg, it's just a question of how much else you're going to lose.
