UCLA MEN’S BASKETBALL PICKED FIRST IN PAC-12 PRESEASON POLL
Bruins have secured 32 of 34 possible first-place votes

SAN FRANCISCO – The UCLA men’s basketball team has been selected first in the annual Pac-12 men’s basketball preseason media poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The Bruins secured 32 of 34 possible first-place votes in the preseason poll. UCLA advanced to the 2021 Final Four, going 22-10 overall last season, and will return all 10 contributors from that postseason run.

Oregon finished in second in the preseason poll, securing the other two first-place votes. USC was selected third, while Oregon State and Arizona were tied for fourth. Colorado rounded out the top half of the preseason poll as the sixth team.

Arizona State, Washington State, Stanford, Utah, Washington, and California completed the predicted order of finish.

Media members have correctly picked the Pac-12 Conference winner 17 times in 32 tries, including five times during the Pac-12 era (since 2011-12). The winner has been accurately chosen in 21 of the 37 all-time preseason votes.

In addition, Campbell, Jaquez Jr., and Johnny Juzang were selected as preseason first-team All-Pac-12 selections, as voted by media members. The Pac-12 unveiled a 10-person “first team” and a five-person “second team” in its annual list of preseason selections.

Freshman Peyton Watson, a 6-foot-8 guard/forward from Long Beach, Calif., was listed as an honorable mention preseason all-league selection. Watson and Stanford’s Harrison Ingram were the only freshmen preseason honorable mention accolades (earning at least eight votes from the voting media contingent).

Jaquez Jr., Juzang, and head coach Mick Cronin are representing UCLA’s program at Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Media (more information here) at the Pac-12 Headquarters in San Francisco.

UCLA will open its regular-season schedule against CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Game time is 8 p.m. (PT) in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The Bruins will host one exhibition game against Chico State on Thursday, Nov. 4.
