UCLA BASKETBALL SIGNS ALEX OLESINSKI TO NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT

Alex Olesinski inks National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Bruins

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA basketball program has received a signed National Letter of Intent from high school senior Alex Olesinski during the regular signing period, it was announced today by head coach Steve Alford.

Olesinski, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward from Roswell, N.M., spent his junior and senior high school seasons at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind. He will enroll at UCLA this summer and begin his freshman campaign in 2015-16 after graduating from La Lumiere this spring.

"Alex is a talented player who has very good size, a great understanding of the game, can really shoot the ball well and never takes a possession off," Alford said. "He has developed a reputation as an extremely hard worker, both on the court and in the classroom, and comes from a high school that has embraced a winning culture. He's the kind of student-athlete we look for at UCLA, and we're excited to have him join us on campus this summer."

As a senior at La Lumiere in 2014-15, Olesinski averaged 13.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, shooting 44 percent from three-point range. He helped lead La Lumiere to a 25-3 record under the direction of head coach Shane Heirman.

As a junior (2013-14), Olesinski averaged 9.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, shooting 61 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the three-point arc. That year, La Lumiere made its third consecutive trip to the Dick's Sporting Goods High School National Tournament, posting a 23-3 overall record and earning a No. 5 final national ranking by USA Today.

Olesinski joins the Bruins' incoming class along with guards Prince Ali (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Aaron Holiday (North Hollywood, Calif.). All three are currently seniors in high school, with Ali at The Sagemont School (Weston, Fla.) and Holiday at Campbell Hall High School (North Hollywood, Calif.).
