UCLA is a team with many offensive options, and is a nightmare to guard since they will make the extra pass (or two or three). They embarrassed USC tonight, and put up a triple on them.
In the last game against Oregon State the Bruins came out for the second half and scored on their first 7 straight possessions. Then after missing two good looks, they score on 8 straight possessions. Think about that, 15 scores on only 17 possessions for an unbelievable score / possession ratio of 88.24%!
Tonight with a combo of careless passing by the Bruins and USC hitting 3's the Trojans were only behind 12 with 7:00 to go in the game. Not great on the road, but certainly doable for an athletic team who can press.
Then all hell broke lose as over the next seven minutes the Bruins outscored the Trojans by a mind boggling 22 points. Bryce started the onslaught with a 3 then an unbelievable 3 point play with high arching shot off the backboard as he was fouled hard.
After Bryce got the rebound on a missed USC shot he was fouled again and hit both throws. After Metu scored Bryce hit another shot, and had racked up 10 points in than a minute and a half off the clock. Then after Hamilton scored Bryce (can you believe it) got a blocked shot, which led to a tech on the USC coach.
Bryce also made both those throws with 4:41 on the clock, so in just 3:29 UCLA had scored on 6 straight possessions. That 12 point lead? Now doubled for an insurmountable 24 point lead! After Lonzo turned it over, the Bruin then went on another scoring binge of 6 straight possessions. The 24 point lead? Now.....34 points.
