Former three-star wide receiver and one-time UCLA commit Ryan Newsome is transferring from Texas after just a year at the school.

Today, the 5-foot-9, 175-pound WR received his official release, and he said he's going to reach out to Eric Yarber as early as tonight to inquire about UCLA's interest.

"I'm gone call him (Yarber) tonight," Newsome said.

The receiver, though, isn't sure if UCLA will have room for him. Other schools that he's interested in have ensured him they have room for him. He said he needs to make sure the Bruins have that before he moves on in the process with them.

"It's obviously a numbers game at this point, so I'm not sure what their situation is," Newsome said. "All these other schools that want me actually have room."

Newsome sounds like he'd still have big interest in heading off to Westwood. The three-star said he's actually already reached out to former Texas five-star Soso Jamabo about the Bruins.

"I've already talked with Soso," Newsome said. "But I don't know how the coaching staff feels."

Newsome may just get that answer from Yarber tonight.
