Apologies in advance I feel a little spoiled by watching Paul Perkins
and Johnathan Franklin set Bruin records from years past:
What I see is a preference to start Soso Jamabo, and I don't understand it.
I am also originally from Texas, was very happy to see UCLA sign him as a 5-star
out-of-state recruit, and so I clearly have a friendly bias in seeing him do well, but:
1) He is 6'2.5" and 210 pounds. This is uncommonly tall and skinny for a tailback,
because it does not provide him power, a low center of gravity and/or desirable 'shiftiness'.
He runs a 4.55 40-yard dash which is comparatively slow for D-1 TBs.
('Jetski' Franklin ran a 4.4 40)
2) By all indications he runs 'tall' and pretty much straight ahead. This does not
appear to provide UCLA with any inherent elusive 'run to daylight' advantages.
3) One look at his arms and it is obvious that he has not 'bulked up' like his
predecessors, and this is his 3rd year in the program.
What am I missing here?
