UCLA faces aTm in their first game next season, and since the two school often clash for recruits they'll be seeing them all over the place prior to that. aTm is now the favorite for OL de-commit Farrar, and the Aggies are on the final list for some California and Nevada recruits. Meanwhile the Bruins look to continue a string of recruiting wins for their annual haul out of the Lone Star state.
As always the head coach is a major, if not THE major draw for recruits, and last year Coach Kevin Sumlin had a PR nightmare. First he lost his former starting QB Kyle Allen, who the Bruins had perused strongly. Before the ink on the transfer papers had barely dried the heir apparent (and wildly popular in Texas) Kyler Murray also exited
The double whammy QB exodus ramped up questions about what's going on College Station, and in the meantime former star Aggie QB Johnny Manziel is both adding too, and then ultimately overshadowing Sumlin's PR problems. Johnny Football creates tabloid fodder at will....the Browns suspension, slapping around a girlfriend, wild parties in Cabo and Vegas, etc., etc.
However his spiral downward is now well beyond football. He's in total denial, refusing to even consider rehab, and was even dropped by his frustrated agent. It's so serious his father, Paul Manziel, is literally afraid for his life and was quoted saying "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday,"
As always seems to be the case (see Justin Bieber) the party hearty boys who fancy themselves above the normal crowd head to LA. After all isn't that where the real stars hang out? Enter Manziel where's he's now into using-a-fake-name-to-rent-a-house-for-binge-party-trashing.
