I am taking off my Bruin hat today to watch Super Bowl 50.
I can still remember, as a 25-year-old Rams fan, the first NFL-AFL Championship game which was blacked out in Los Angeles. We went to visit my brother-in-law who lived in Laguna Beach, just far enough to reach the signal from San Diego, to watch that first game between Lombardi’s Packers and the high-scoring Chiefs.
It was strange rooting for the hated Packers, but I found my NFL allegiance stronger than my ill feelings toward Green Bay.
Today I am hoping for a feel-good story for Peyton Manning. I don’t really think the Broncos, even with their great defense, have much of a chance against Carolina, absolutely the best team in football, but there have been bigger upsets.
I have marveled at the ability of Cam Newton all year and was hoping that team would go undefeated, but since they have already lost a game, I find myself pulling for the old man today.
Go Broncos.
