Tonight saw a big high school matchup in Las Vegas between defending Arizona state champion Chandler, and defending Nevada state champion Bishop Gorman. Both teams are nationally ranked again, and loaded with college level talent.

For example Gorman's QB is Tate Martell who became famous for committing to USC's Lane Kiffin as a middle schooler. He also hit the news last week when, committed to Texas A&M. Gorman also has a very, very fast young running back named Biaggio Ali Walsh, with the Ali coming from his grandfather Mohammed Ali the boxer.

Chandler's also not lacking for big time talent with the No. 1 recruit in Arzona being their own N'keal Harry a very impressive 6'4" WR. They also have a new QB who's already committed to Oregon State in dual threat Mason Moran.

Moran's commitment is a special story. Last year Chander's QB was Bryce Perkins, brother of UCLA / Pac 12 rushing leader Paul Perkins. Bryce signed with ASU, and Moran was a star safety on the defense. The Beavers look to have gotten a real steal as you Moran looks very talented and composed. You'd think he been the starter for years.

The other big star for Chandler is big UCLA target Athlete Chase Lucas who's a do it all kick returner / WR / DB. Chase had a huge game in last week's opener, and was looking forward to the big game against Gorman. Unfortunately on the game's first play he took an awkward side step trying to gain a few more yards on the kickoff, and injured his knee.

The injury looked grim in the replay. What may have said more was player after player and coach after coach came over to the table he was being treated on looking very concerend, and obviously trying to cheer him up. Chase ended up on crutches and while it will likely take an MRI to determine the full damage, his and his teammates / coaches demeanor said it all.

At the least this one looks to be for awhile, and it wouldn't be surprising to see this end up with an operation and season long rehab. In his recruiting interviews Chase appears to be a first class, kid and the respect and love he was shown by his team wasn't a put on. It was clear he's a leader.

Wherever Lucas end up let's hope him a speed recovery, and at the least that he ends up back 100% to start is college career a year from now.
