What is it we really want? Until we answer this, nothing can happen.

It's not about being a one-year success. There are plenty of schools that have one year success stories. The problems at Ucla are much greater. And, if were just one or two, they could probably be dealt with. But let's take a look

1. What success are we talking about.
A. Up until last season, mora had 37 wins in four seasons. Success?
B. We beat USC three straight years. A success

What is success. I'm not sure anyone really knows what we want our success to be

For so many years beating USC made us a success. Think we have passed that.

1 So is consistent success winning the PAC-12 south?
2 Or winning the PAC-12?
3 Or making a major bowl?
4 Or making the final 4?

How many schools in America can say only final 4? Alabama, FSU, Ohio state. And probably USC. Can we include Clemson in this now. Would Dabo consider anything else a success.

So what is bruin success

Don't think it will ever be final 4. Don't think it will ever be major bowl. So we get to winning PAC-12 or one step back.

Why not the last two. Here are the five major reasons
1. Academics - there is no school in America with our academic policy that can ever fit group 4. Not Stanford not noted dame not ucla. This keeps us from 4-3
2. Lack of an on campus stadium. Will always be a problem for us. Causing for no 4 or 3. Does it keep us from 2? Not sure
3. Lack of a football philosophy. This is actually changing I think. Rick Neuheisel forced the issue and Wasserman was created. But is that enough. Still need much more for a football philosophy. Again. No 4 or 3. And a problem to be a consistent 2
4. History. We need a full generation of 1 and 2 for it to happen. We have neveyr had that. Think about this. It has been 30 yrs since the dodgers have won a World Series but. They are still considered champs. Because of all the years
5. USC - until we can consistently over take them in recruiting we will never be a consistent. 1 or 2.

So, success at UCLA. Once we figure out what success means, maybe we can create it.

10 wins but no pac-12 champ. Success????
