I was thinking that we were close to hitting rock bottom in football which is pretty far down for our program. But let’s play it forward if Chip leaves…
No less than half of our roster graduates or transfers, including most likely our top four QBs, our entire stable of running backs, and 3/4 of our starting defense.
We can’t get high quality players through the portal if they think Chip is dead man walking. Plus they will have witnessed an exodus from the program. We know Chip isn’t going to pull in any quality recruits from HS.
We join the Big 10 and play an exponentially more difficult schedule against much bigger and deeper teams. We end up 3-9 with some embarrassing blowouts.
You know the team will quit on Chip in that scenario, so the product is going to be not only terrible but embarrassing.
We inevitably fire Chip at some point next year. We have an even more decimated roster with an even more disengaged fan base.
What exactly is there to gain by staying the course? Does anyone think that we’re beating LSU, Washington, Oregon, Penn State, Iowa, OR SC next year? Let alone Hawaii, Fresno State, Nebraska, Rutgers, Indiana, or Minnesota?
Fresno State will smoke us in the last game of the year.
Plus our home games are all going to be like away games.
If I were betting right now I would bet the under if they set our wins at 5. Like the easiest money ever. But that’s not the problem…it’s that we’re in way worse shape than we are now, which is hard to believe…
