UCLA Football: Bruins Defense Officially Ascends To Best In Nation After USC Upset

The win over USC just keeps on
It has been a very up-and-down year for the UCLA Bruins football team, but they have continued to push through the adversity. They have stuck to their game plan amid injuries and inconsistent play, which has been great to see.
All season the Bruins defense has been the identity of the program. It has been quite the turnaround for this team, and it has helped them throughout the year.
While they haven’t been perfect, they have made it difficult for opponents to play against them. Led by defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, the Bruins have turned themselves into one of the best defenses in the nation.
After their dominant performance against the rival USC Trojans this past weekend, the Bruins are now ranked first nationally in one specific defensive category. That would be the opponent's rushing yards per game.
The Bruins have made it a point of emphasis this season to not get burned by opposing running attacks. They are the best in the nation at defending the run, and they showed it again against USC.
They allowed just three rushing yards to the Trojans this weekend, although a good chunk of that was from sacking quarterback Caleb Williams. But even without that, the Trojans backs would have combined for just 23 rushing yards total.

Your favorite UCLA football PAC-10 memories

Since today is the last day of regular season games in PAC-10 history, what are your favorite memories as a fan (or player or media member as a few of you were/are)? Who were the players who made the biggest impression on you?

For me, I was a freshman the fall of ‘92 and had grown up a Cal fan. They basically had one star offensive player my whole youth (Russell White) and I was ready to see some passing at UCLA. It only took me a couple of games to be a full fledged UCLA fan. JJ Stokes had a magical year, culminating with the great SC win with Barnes. The offensive line was dominant starting a young core including Ogden and Vaughan Parker. On defense we had quite a few very good players including young SS turned LB Donnie Edwards and strong side pass rusher and run stuffer Jamir Phillips.

The Bruins didn’t lose a game against SC for my first 8 years of Bruin fandom.

Over the years the best game I saw was the Route 66 game and about 4 SC nailbiters. Particularly memorable to me were the Marvin Goodwin interception game and the Skip Hicks OT game two years later.

The best offensive players in my time have been Ogden, MJD, Stokes, McNown, Rosen (when he wasn’t getting his brains bashed in), Jordan Payton, Skip Hicks, Myles Jack for five games, Paul Perkins, and Deshaun Foster.

On defense, my memories are of Donnie Edwards, Eric Kendrick’s, Myles Jack, Akeem Ayers, Robert Thomas, Jamir Phillips, and now Latu

Can we beat Marquette tonight?

Common sense says no.
They are 4th ranked team in the country and have 4 returning starters. The line has us as 6-point dogs but most don’t think it will be that close.
I think our size and defense gives us a chance but our lack of consistent outside shooting will be a problem.
Should be a great learning experience for our young team as well as the first time we will have our entire roster in place.
