Defensive Recruits

I'm guessing since we have mostly filled all the offensive holes we can now focus on defense. This can be done through the portal and the next signing class. Need help at all 3 levels. DTs, LBs, and DBs. Also, if McGovern's health issues won't allow him to continue coaching could we be in the market for a new DC?

2023 UCLA commits have their next target in mind

The incoming freshmen are now calling for the addition of Gardena Serra four-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant. He makes sense as the next big priority for a number of reasons, particularly because the secondary is the biggest area of need.

I covered one game this HS season with Pleasant’s Serra team against Tennessee commit Nico Iamaleava and Warren. He was as good as advertised, returning a kickoff for a TD and making two fourth-quarter INTs to lead the way in a close win.

Five biggest recruiting needs

If everyone who has committed sticks, I would say the three biggest needs at this juncture are:
CB- Having a really good CB would help this defense dramatically
QB- I like the kid from my alma mater, Miramonte, but see him as an upside guy with a fairly low floor
TE- We use the TE so much that pairing one with a stud young QB would be great
DT- We run a scheme that tires DTs (as if it’s not exhausting enough.) Depth is essential.

OLB/ DE- We rely on qb pressure to get our defense off the field.

Plus, a look at the 2023 starting O-line situation with Purdue transfer Spencer Holstege now in the fold.

I asked around during practice and there doesn’t seem to be a hard deadline for anyone to exercise the extra pandemic year option. So, gaining clarity on the situations of Jon Gaines II, Duke Clemens may be a while unless they directly state it and are made available to us in the lead up to the bowl game.
